The rise in temperature is fuelling a rise in women's tempers, according to new research.
A summer-time stress epidemic has hit British females, with 70 per cent admitting to losing it more easily with friends, family and partners during the hot and humid months, suggests a study by Maltesers Ice Cream.
Out of the 2,700 women questioned in the survey posted on Handbag.com, 63 per cent admitted to snapping at work colleagues during the sweltering summer and 48 per cent said they felt more self-conscious about their body.
Hot and sweaty journeys on packed public transport is top
of the female aggravation list, closely followed by
unsightly sweat patches in embarrassing areas and dodgy tan lines.
Fashion Clothing Summer wardrobe envy and arguments over office air-con temperatures were also among the top ten summer time gripes for women.
Regionally, females in the West Midlands are ahead in the stress stakes, where 77 per cent admitted to losing their temper with friends, family and partners and 67 per cent said they snapped at work colleagues more often when the temperatures soared outside.
Closely following their lead, just one per cent behind, are Londoners.
"Summer can have a negative effect on some people, but there are some simple rules for keeping positive," said Jenni Trent Hughes, a consumer behaviour and relationship specialist.
In addition to keeping cool with a cold drink or an ice cream, the expert suggests flirting with someone on your journey to work and laughing at least 10 times a day to help beat the stress.
